We built GamesForFriends because buying retro gear online should not feel like guesswork.
An Australian store for collectors who care about condition, honesty, and hardware that actually works when it arrives.
Why we exist
Too many retro listings online skip the details that actually matter. Vague condition notes, recycled stock photos, and descriptions that could apply to any unit sitting in any warehouse. We started GamesForFriends to fix that for Australian buyers.
Every listing is checked by hand, opened, tested, photographed from multiple angles, and described with the kind of notes you would want if you were spending your own money. Because that is exactly the standard we would expect as buyers ourselves.
What makes us different
We are not a marketplace. We do not list gear we have never touched. Every item in the catalogue has passed through our hands, been powered on, and been graded before it goes live. If something has a scratch, a replaced shell, or a battery that holds a shorter charge than expected, we say so upfront.
That approach means a smaller catalogue than the big resellers, but it also means you know exactly what is arriving at your door.
Who runs the desk
Mia Hart, Customer Care Lead handles order support, delivery follow-up, and policy escalations so buyers get a direct answer instead of a vague template.
Daniel Mercer, Operations Manager oversees intake testing, listing standards, and dispatch controls across games, consoles, and accessories.
Where we operate
GamesForFriends operates from Level 2, 18 Harbour Lane, Sydney NSW 2000, with weekday support coverage from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm AEST.
General support runs through [email protected] and +61 2 5550 4826.
How our grading works
Step 1 - Intake and inspection
Every unit is unpacked, visually inspected, and logged. We check for physical damage, missing parts, and signs of previous repair or modification.
Step 2 - Functional testing
Hardware is powered on and tested through its core functions: disc drives, controller ports, video output, audio channels, and battery charge cycles where applicable.
Step 3 - Cleaning and prep
Shells are cleaned, contacts are treated, and labels are checked. We do not retrobright unless requested - we prefer honest patina over hidden wear.
Step 4 - Listing and photography
Each item is photographed against a neutral background with close-ups of any wear. The listing notes cover what is included, what works, and what to expect.
Dispatch and packaging
We ship from Sydney, NSW. Orders confirmed before 1 pm AEST on business days go out the same day. Every console ships in a rigid outer box with anti-static wrap and corner padding. Games and accessories travel in padded card mailers or bubble-lined envelopes depending on value.
We treat packaging as part of the product experience, not an afterthought. A collector item should arrive looking like it was packed by someone who cares, because it was.
Trade-in and buyback
If you have gear you no longer need, our trade-in desk gives you a fast quote and a clear process. Send us details and photos, receive a valuation within one business day, and choose between store credit or direct payout.
Trade-ins keep good hardware circulating instead of sitting in drawers. It is better for collectors, better for the gear, and better for the hobby.
Our commitment to Australian buyers
All prices are in AUD with GST included. Returns follow a straightforward 30-day policy. Consumer guarantees under the Australian Consumer Law always apply. Support is available Mon-Fri during AEST business hours, and we reply to every enquiry within one business day.
We are not the biggest retro store online. But we are building the one we would want to buy from.
Honest condition notes
We document wear, test results, and box contents so you can judge before buying - no surprises on arrival.
Checked by enthusiasts
Hardware is reviewed by people who collect, play, and maintain retro gear themselves.

Questions answered by real people during Australian business hours - not a ticket queue overseas.
Fair trade-in credit
